You've heard the above saying right? A thief always lives in fear. Edgar Allen Poe probably did this most justice in his “The Tell-Tale Heart”. Perhaps we should be sending copies of this short story to Jane Harman. Her most recent demonstration of this guilt-ridden type of behavior occurred on Wednesday, November 28th when she denied access to a reporter for an Armenian newspaper during a “media roundtable” at which her Deniership was to discuss “local, national, and international” issues. You might think I'm being too harsh on her. After all, she claims to recognize Turkey's mass-murder of Armenians as genocide. There's just that piddling little, convenience, timing issue. You know, we mustn't offend the murderer-state, gosh, they have feelings too and might reject billions in U.S. aid by ; fill in Ankara's empty, absurd “threat du jour”, make one up, have fun with it. Aiding and abetting the denial of the Armenian Genocide makes the aider/abettor a denier as well, pure and simple. If Harman wants to shake that title, she knows what to do. It's very simple. Playing the “Holocaust card” (her family went through that hell) won't cut it. In fact it screams even more loudly for Janie to exit the dark side. Spare us the alligator tears. Nor will her attempts to distract rightfully indignant people. A current obfuscatory theme of hers seems to be a complaint that organizers of the November 11th UCLA protest, (some misguided campus group was actually honoring her) refused to meet with her, to hear her position. That would be akin to meeting with today's Turkish pashas (generals) to discuss restoration of Armenian lands to their rightful owners, meanwhile these guys are salivating over occupying Kurdistan (oops, forgot the formalities, I'm supposed to call it Northern Iraq). Pointless. Waste of time. If she expects that kind of respect, she must (re)earn. She should stop acting like a childish sneak. Remember, she was a sponsor of the H. Res. 106 and secretly wrote a letter to the chair and ranking minority member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) opposing it. If she had changed her mind openly, stated her reasons-- arising from being wooed by Turkish deniers on her recent visit to Turkey-- it would have been one thing. It would have been wrong and reprehensible, but a part of the natural give-and-take, or even discourse, of politics. But her understandable guilt drove her to try to pull a fast one and she got busted. Remember also her letter to the editor appearing in the November 4 Asbarez. In it she effectively claims her infamous missive to the HFAC was quite open and above board, misrepresenting the chronology and cause of its publication. She also states her continued cosposnorship of 106. Don't you get it Harman? You can't have it both ways. You're either on board fully or a denier. There's no such thing as sort-of-pregnant or partial-genocide. Now she's spinning the timing of her sneakiness, whining about protesters, and denying access to reporters. Someone ought to remind her about the media adage “I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right”. More importantly, she should remember the saying “When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging”. Call and tell her what you think of her petty maneuvers. She's obviously feeling the heat.
