New Opposition Bloc to be Created

YEREVAN (Combined Sources)-Several political parties announced Tuesday that they will form an opposition bloc and called the current opposition led by former Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrosyan "representatives of fascism."

The Constitutional Rights Union, the National Self-Determination Union, Armenia's Liberal Progressive Party, Armenia's Christian-Democratic Accord and Armenia's Communist Party are forces uniting for this new opposition bloc, announced CRU chairman Haik Baboukhanyan during a town hall meeting Tuesday.

According to Baboukhanyan, the goal of the new opposition coalition would not be change the leadership, but rather to provide alternatives to domestic and international challenges facing Armenia.

He also explained that the forces that have rallied around Ter-Petrosian have destroyed the Armenian nation. These forces, Baboukanyan said, believe that they are the only opposition, yet they are "representatives of fascism."
